AGUILAS & LORCA
|
Aguilas lies on the Mediterranean coast in the southwest corner of the Murcia region. The area is relatively untouched by modern industrialisation. It possesses nearly 34Kms of coastline in four large bays overlooked by the clifftop Castle of San Juan de Aguilas. Other relics in the area include Roman Thermal Baths. Aguilas is host to the National Salsa Music Festival and there's a colourful Carnival in February.
Lorca is located in western Murcia, about 30Km inland from Aguilas. It is a large town covering nearly 1700 square kilometres. The town's Archaelogical Museum has locally discovered artefacts which are evidence to the fact that the area has been inhabited since neolithic times. Today it bears many examples of interesting architecture including the medieval Castle of Lorca, a number of ancient churches and a modernist casino. There's also a craft centre where local artists and craftspeople display and sell their creations.
